Join an initiative led by high schoolers petitioning for the removal of invasive ALPR cameras in Loveland, Colorado.
What is Flock?
These ALPR cameras surveil everyone in Loveland and create profiles of people and their cars called Vehicle Fingerprints. ALPR stands for automatic license plate readers but these cameras have been found to monitor much more than license plates. These cameras are used as a form of dragnet policing which erodes privacy rights enshrined in the constitution.
Loveland, Colorado, is an oddity as a town with a population around 80,000 that has at least 30 cameras with at least 10 being managed by the Thompson School District. Fort Collins, who recently removed their ALPR readers, has a population of about 170,000 and owned 15 Flock cameras.
Loveland’s contract was signed in 2023 and is projected to spend $483,283 of taxpayer dollars
What are we doing about it?
Our team, composed entirely of highschoolers, is organizing a petition to eventually present at the Loveland City Council meeting on August 19th and September 1st at 6PM, anyone is welcome to come. We have physical petitions and an electronic petition.
